Lactation Educators that have the initials CLE have attended a Lactation Educator Course such as that offered by the UCLA Extension, Division of Nursing, Department of Continuing Education in Health Sciences, the UCLA School of Nursing, and the UCLA School of Medicine. The program involves both lecture and course work.
Lactation educators' services include:
"The high-risk infants that come to our clinic are especially
vulnerable to infection. As a nutritionist and director of a WIC
clinic, I know mothers' milk is best for baby and that breastfed
babies are more resistant to infections and have fewer health
problems. Another benefit of breastfeeding is that it enhances
parenting skills. Helping mothers through the learning process,
however, can be time consuming. The peer counselor class Beverly
teaches has provided our breastfeeding mothers with an additional
source of support through our Peer Counselor Program."
